Sporting Cristal is a Peruvian football club founded on 13 December 1955 in Lima's Rímac district by engineer Richard Bentín Mujica and his wife Esther Grande de Bentín, who were stockholders of the brewery Backus and Johnston. The brewery's close association with the club since its inception led to the team's popular nickname, los Cerveceros.
