The New York Red Bulls are an MLS club based in the New York metropolitan area, competing in the Eastern Conference. Originally established in October 1994 as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, they began play in Major League Soccer's inaugural season in 1996. Red Bull GmbH acquired the team in 2006 and rebranded it as part of its international soccer network.
